Music: another creative outlet
Written by Verne on July 9th, 2007My good friend Derrick from The Music Blogger (www.themusicblogger.com) posted about some recordings him and I did a few weeks back. He’s posted a raw (or ‘unmastered’) recording of Jack Johnson’s Rodeo Clowns done in his basement studio, starring yours struly on the guitar and vocals, and him on the bass and pretty much everything else you can hear.
You can check out Derrick’s post and the song here.
It’s hard to get away from a ‘job’ that doesn’t exactly run on a 9-5 schedule, but I try to step away every now and then and jam a bit. I’m by far an amateur, but it certainly does the trick as an alternative creative outlet. Sometimes it helps to get the ideas flowing too!
I’d be interested in hearing if any of the readers here have any interesting alternative creative outlets of their own. Leave me a comment!

July 10th, 2007 at 7:12 pmIs it the writing or the reading that acts as your creative outlet? My guess is the reading - in which case, I agree that reading poetry definitely flexes the creative muscles in your brain a bit.
I personally get a lot of inspiration from reading anything well written - whether it be taglines from campaigns, copy on ads, dialog on radio commercials, or in your case, lines from poems.
Thanks for the insight!

July 10th, 2007 at 10:58 pmWhen I get upset or angry, I write song lyrics. They are fairly amateur-ish, but I’d like to think I’m better than Avril.
Also, when I get a sudden burst of inspiration, I write down some business ideas or stuff from my HR courses that I think would be useful.
